Painted Finishes

It is Friday again and Mister M has finally started his vacation so this post comes a bit late, but better late than never. This week I want to show my finished painted doll cradle which is about fifty years old that I recently got from my mother. 

Here it is in our house and as you can see the colour is a bit dark and faded and my mother and I agreed it needed a new colour.

I have started using it for yarn, and here is the haul from this summer. Drops had a sale, first on wool and then on cotton, but now I might have enough for a while. Maybe:P

Some of these balls belong to *Kio and gacha stitches.

So here it is finished, with a very light purple, I think it might have benefitted with a bit more colour and a bit less white in it, but I still like it. When alone it looks white, but put it next to some purple or white and you see that it is indeed purple.

And my stash has decidedly decreased. Although I must confess not all of the yarn has been used yet, I have used about ten balls and given *Kio around ten that was hers.

Uki uki Rabu

Today we have had a little sleepy day here in the burrow. Rabbits L O V E their bed, but it seems that some bun somehow always end up with a little bum out of the bed so we are contemplating buying a second so that both fit perfectly.

Mimle was flopping in the bed when Valmin decided to join her and there was no room for two flopping bunnies so they had to be loafing bunnies instead. I love it when they smush their heads together like that. True love.

The box is almost finished! I adore the colour and I know I said that I was feeling like I was done with all the painting, but I still find myself searching for more items to paint in this colour... Like the frame over my dollhouse or the plate rack from my dad because this colour makes my heart go all fluttery and uki uki doki doki, and it does go with our purple wall too.

And small things don't take up so much space while they get remodelled anyway so it won't clutter that much.

And I am making some more bunting, all from scraps. This palette does look rather easter/spring-y don't you think? 

Jinsei wa

Today

My bouquet is growing. I have made ten leaves and 22 flowers so far, but I know I need plenty more.

It is rather nice to make different flowers from different patterns knowing it will turn into something in the end, I would not have the patience to make a hundred little flowers from one pattern and yarn like some people do who make the most gorgeous shawls or blankets, I wish I did have the patience though, but you can't have it all.

My shawl is nearing it's completion, the knitted part is done, and I still have plenty of skein two so I am currently making a edge on it... Or rather looking at patterns to see which ones would fit. 

Mimle has the cutest little bottom so I completely understand her need to show it to me constantly. 

Even though I love painting I must say I am glad that we have the end of painting is in sight, because it is a bit frustrating having furniture in the middle of the room with plastic on the floor for days on end. 

The bookcase is finished, one coat to prevent seepage of the wood and two coats of white with three coats on the shelves themselves takes a lot of time, especially when you have to wait six hours between coats. The twin to this is still at mums place and will have to get the same treatment one of these days.

The small box on the floor I found at dads with lots of cards inside, most not written, I have no idea what he thought about them, but since they had been stored in the basement most smelt funky so we threw them away. I washed the box and primed it. I will paint it pink and store my finished cards in it so that I know where they are when they need using.

The dresser for our bedroom got one coat of the same primer underneath and two coats of blue two shades darker than the walls in our bedroom so it should fit nicely in there wedged between the bed and closet.

The knobs are painted the same colour as the wall in our bedroom, but it needs another coat before I can put it back in there. And the pile of clothes behind there was supposed to be put in storage for summer, but then it snowed so we kept them in the living room for a bit more time just to make sure the snow stayed away. 

The colour is more accurate in the first picture.

 Today I think about and remember a friend I used to have and all the fun things we used to do.

I miss her, or maybe I just miss those days, but still life goes on.

Påskekos in the house

This Vacation has seen us doing lots of little home-improvement and life-hacking along with some serious "kos" time, so want to see some accomplishments?

Yesterday we were at some friends house and played cards, I had lots of fun, I didn't win though, which usually equals no fun so I guess that proves how good the game is. 

And yes, I brought knitting, crochet and cross-stitch, because you never know what you are in the mood for. 

Since I started my shawl with the long end my rounds are going faster and faster and it seems I will only use two or three skeins which means there will be plenty left to make a crochet border. ^^

I am definitely making another one later, but this year is about me, it is about time I made some stuff for myself too.

Oh, and about things for myself, I have finished painting my dollhouse, three coats of shiny white and  it looks good if I may say so myself. Here are all my knitting-crochet-sewing books and patters and some boxes with yarn and started projects. I think I will like this corner. Let's just hope the bunnies know how to leave it alone...

The bunting on top is something I made a few weeks ago. I think I will make another because it looks so cute on top of my house like that.

In the ongoing season of bunny-proofing everything we bought some floor vinyl and put on the floor and side of the IKEA HOL to prevent spillage of hay and easy cleaning of accidents and stray poo. Honestly it was well worth both time and money because we only had to fill twice yesterday which I think is a first. Bunnies love it.

Also boyfriend and I went for a walk and this little dude said hello, I love birds that live near people because this little guy could not care less about us or the cars and just happily sang away.

Want to see some things I have painted since we moved in?

This dresser lives in our hallway, the light blueish colour is the same we used for the walls in our bedroom. This is the bunnyroom, with the HOL on the side with their toilet and haystation.

The last owner left this in the storageroom and after some paint I think it looks good. Yes, I haven't painted the feet yet:p

This was another used item we found cheap, the same grey but we bought some black because the counter tops in the kitchen is black so I thought it would look nice and matching. The other bureau was from dads house, boyfriend has cut it so that it is the same height as the other and we will put doors on it and paint it the same as the other one. I think that will look good.

Mimle looks so adorable here that I had to use this shot even if you can see all the clutter around it.

This chest was from dads place, I painted that one too because the paintjob on it was looking very shabby. The same grey as on the other furniture because we have an open landscape like flat and when you use too many different colours it might look crowded.

Guess what I store in here?

Yes, most of my yarn!

I took them all out of their bags so that you can see how much there is, and most was yarn given to me.

I like the colours here, our flat is not just grey, but since I have so many colourful things I think grey is a colour that is nice to use on large things that will hang around all year because it fits with everything. 

If I had painted these dressers pink, it would look awful at Christmas with all the red...

And boyfriend is not that into pink, so it is easier to just get many small pink items that he won't notice than try to get permission to paint something big pink ;)

This is between the kitchen and sitting room, behind the dressers is the sofa, and on the sides are the compost fence to keep the bunnies safe from all the electric wires not yet fixed... But they are allowed short burst in the sitting room now and again, very supervised that is;)

And I do have some splashes of colour, like grandma's old chair with the pink grannysquare-blanket.

But boyfriend lives here too and even if he is not adversed to colours after all he chose the colour in our bedroom, for some reason he does not want that much pink or colourful splurges...

Good thing for me that I got to go all out and make my old room at my mothers place colourful.

I might put my old dollhouse where the IKEA shelving unit is now, what do you think? Because I want to make this a reading corner...

My old room in pink

This weekend I was visiting my mother and we continued to make my old room a little bit cozier. This time we painted the wall bright pink, last time we painted my old daybed grey and my mother's old desk got another coat of a bit darker pink, similar to the one it had, but it needed some touch up.

The Tinkerbell poster reminds me of when I was seventeen I think, my friends both loved Tinkerbell, so I liked having that poster on the wall, and it fits so nicely with the new decor too. Boyfriend keeps saying it looks like a six year old lives there, but I keep saying it is not quite done yet, plus sometimes it is nice to cater to the six year old in your heart I think.

My mother and I both love a plant called heather so we used that as basis for this room. If we find some nice plastic plants of that we will put them somewhere for decorations. We did some decluttering and reorganizing too.

Last time I was there we bought the cutest little grey rug, but I didn't snap any photos of that. Speaking of photos, these were taken in the evening but with boyfriends wonderful mobilephonecamera. I love his camera, I think I need a new one myself... 

This is my old doll house that my father made, for some years it has been used as shelves and needs some TLC. Next time I visit we will tackle this, I am not quite sure how to paint it, I still want the outside to be white, but am contemplating making the back wall on the inside the dark pink we used on moms desk, but I am not sure....

Both my mother and I like to reuse something and instead of buying something new rather fixing it up if we can. Who says a doll house has to contain dolls?

There are so many memories here, my brother's old ghostbusters car, old kitty-wine bottles from when my friends and I first tried wine. A memorial-plate I made of my late bunny in school, the old clock that hasn't work in twenty years, but my grandmother gave it to me, I still want some of those memories to sit in my old doll house, but I need the rest to find somewhere else to live.

My dad also made this bookcase, I like it, but it would have been even more useful if it was taller... I am not sure how to paint this either, grey or white with pink on backside again maybe? Any ideas? I have two of these, but am unsure if two is too much in that room or not....

The other furniture in this room are two boring white wardrobes, but they are functional I guess, so we are leaving them as is. And we might set in my mother's old doll vugge. Currently it is upstairs for decorations with my old dolls in them. It is in some dark blue colour so it needs to change colour to work in this room, but I don't know what colour would fit.... Maybe a contrast colour would be nice?

Oh, and on our way home we almost ran over Mr. Fox, but I saw him and yelled so boyfriend had time to slow down and wait for him to run across the road. On the other side he sat down and peered at us... Foxes are funny things!

No net makes me

do some home decorating.

Since we bought this little nifty dresser I have had a desire to paint each drawer in a different colour, but what is nice about it as it is (or rather was) was that bunny could nibble on it and it would be completely safe, so I did a little compromise and painted just the nobs.

I had to trow out some of my old paint as it was all hard and non-liquid and it was supposed to be wet. So I had to make do with these colours as these were the only ones that were still in liquid form. But I do think the dresser looks quite improved. And as I said to boyfriend, it is a nice inexpensive IKEA dresser, and we could always buy new nob thingies if we tire of colour.

And after my little morning experiment, the internet was back on and I could browse while watching netflix if I wanted to! :)
