Friday Finishes

Another week another Friday, another finish.

Another one of our friends is having a baby and the baby shower looms even closer, the mum-to-be has made a wishlist and on that list were wool clothes, so I whipped out my trusty hook and made a matching set for the little bump.

Dress pattern found here and bonnet pattern found here

I have made both the dress and bonnet before, but then in pink and cotton and the mother wanted not pink and not cotton so I had some fun and made another one. This time I added a little decorative collar in a very pale yellow to the dress and kept the front a bit more open and added a lady-bug-button. I hope the mother will like it. And I hope I don't start something new with the leftover yarn (almost two balls left, plenty to make matching blommers or booties) because the date of the baby shower looms ever closer.

I am trying to stay strong, but just look at these cute little clothes...
They would look good with the rest of the gift.

Friday Fail

Sometimes you start something and you can't see a problem with it or you think it will work itself out and you don't really think too hard about that little voice in your head that tells you something is off. And so it isn't until you have fastened all the threads and the product is really finished and you look at it and go, yeah, I really should have listened to myself and double-checked sooner...

And so my second baby devil-hat turned into a monster....

Since the last one was too small and I had to add a few rows around I thought why not just add a few more stitches in the beginning right? And I added five-ish stitches and I used the same yarn, just in a different colour....

Does this look like a cute child-sized hat?
(that is an adult inside the hat btw)

Grumble grumble,
well, I guess I just have to frog it and start over this time without any added stitches.... I guess both my stitch count and tension was way off that day...
(and the yarn must have been slightly bigger than the last too, even if it was the same size and manufacturer...)

Doctors orders and other Strange things

I am late in posting again, but this week I have been ill with the flue and barely getting anything done at all.... but
I did make some soup and I did some slow knitting without much thought and drank lots of tea and watched Miss Marple... The knitting is for gachastitches and is easy and fun and just what the doctor ordered to keep my cotton mind from going crazy whilst sick.

But I still have a few finishes, some starts and some stories.

On Tuesday I started feeling ill, but not so bad, so I went to the movies with our old neighbour, we saw Doctor Strange, and although I am not a Marvel fan (yet), I am as smitten with Benedict Cumberbatch as everyone else is, and the movie and mr.Cumberbatch did not disappoint. I recommend it, I have been wanting to go to the movies more this year, so I will try.

No idea how many grams I have here, but all in all I bought 300 grams of baby blue, so I will weight the yarn left and the vest and then I will do the math, tomorrow when my mind has gotten some sleep.

Last week, I started these while helping my mum out as a sort of travel project there, and I finished a set of newborn booties and a devils hat from the book crochet for babies by Sys Fredens. (not available in English I think, mine is in Danish) More on that later, I think as I have much to say about that book, but if you want to read about the first time I made those booties, you can look here. I had intended the set to be bigger, but my yarn was too thin so the set was rather small which meant I had some yarn left, so as it goes I started something new.

can you guess what it is?
But there is no surprise that I thought I didn't have enough yarn on this and bought two more balls right?

This is how it will look, like, sort of, since I used a smaller yarn it won't look exactly like that, but kind of. and again in about newborn size...
Not that I know any newborns, but I needed a fast, portable and small project... But a wholly wrap-around vest is useful on babies right? As well as a hat and booties?

and Mimle is happy I am home and sorry I am sick and is hovering beside me. She is such a doll. Sometimes. Even though I hardly get any licks, except yesterday I got three licks on my ankles on the way to bed as she sat under my chair as I was reading the paper.

Oh, and since I haven't done much house work all week because every time I get up I almost faint the bunnies got some weekend treats and had a blast throwing it all around the floor. Luckily Mister M has promised to hoover tomorrow while I clean the bathroom.

Valmin was helping me photograph... He is so curious I sometimes thinks his name should have been George, that silly monkey.

Finished, just need to attach the last two strings to close it and then block it...
But I did not need more than those two whole balls of yarn, I have one whole ball of yarn left and about 20 grams left on the second ball, so now I need a project that does not use more yarn than that so I don't have to buy any more yarn... oh, the circle of yarn....

Finished Friday, rebels and buns

Remember I was busy making baby clothes for a gift for little Maru-chan who was born in May, I made booties, a blanket and four bibs and since I finished the Flower Power Cardigan too last Saturday I included it in the gift (with a vintage Postman Pat book) for the next day because we were invited to meet the baby and see the adults and we got cake the next day^^ The parents said they loved the present but because I finished just the day before I forgot to measure how much I used, I know I started one ball of new dark pink and used a little on the next ball and a tiny bit lighter pink... So I am guessing about 60 grams... And three shiny new pink buttons from my LYS. Little Maru-chan looked super cute in her clothes but I do think wool is a bit hot for summer but you never know, for the past week it has been mostly raining. But I would gladly make another when she is too big for her gift;)

I felt inspired and started another Flower Power cardigan from the book Cute and Easy crocheted Baby clothes by Nicki Trench, and would you know I ran out of yarn :S 80 grams of dark pink, so I started a dress, but what happened? I ran out of yarn again, at 80 grams again, so I need to buy more yarn... Shoganai yo.

So I did. I went to my LYS, in the rain and got soaked.

And I got the last two balls of this colour and I will finish my cardigan, I also bought four tiny pink buttons. I wonder what kind of finish I will do on this. The original has flowers, so either that or a pocket I think. But I haven't bought any more of the pink cotton because then I have to go out of town, so maybe next week, unless I can bribe Mister M to go yarn shopping for me;)

In other news, the bunnies, and mostly Mimle is molting again...
The blob to the right is Valmin and the one on the left is Mimle and just one session. They both hate brushing so i try to pluck whilst petting which sort of works better for us at least... But they are still at the point where they run away from me if I come close with a determined look. I swear those bunnies are mindreaders and always know what I am up to.

Also I am a rebel. Using my clothes pin for taco spices on my tea and sporting a Christmas towel in July. But it is Jul-i-gjen i Juli so there, a bad joke for you Norwegians.

Finished Friday again and more baby gifts

Are you tired of baby-things yet? I hope not, because in my endeavour at getting better at crocheting and designing things I though it good to start small and you don't get any smaller than with baby things...

As I told you earlier, I used one of the baby jackets as size measurements and started on a sort of vest for a baby. It was supposed to be a jacket, but I didn't have enough yarn for the arms and I kind of had no idea how to make it as I wanted so I opted for cute litte wing-like things instead.

Here I am sporting a lovely bracelet of Drops Merino. It was rather useful to hang my yarn on my and when I was halfway through the yarn so it didn't fall off the sofa as often.

Here I was the other day.

And here it is finished, tadah!

I have no idea what size it is, because small babies are hard to come by for size comparison, but I am guessing 3 month?

As you can see it is pretty much the same size as the jacket. Now it only needs a button and a fastening hem thing. And a baby inside, but for now I will just put it in my baby-gift box and hope someone comes a long to wear it. And in the meantime I am making more clothes so that I will get better at it, because this is rather sorry looking even if it is kind of cute. But hey, I designed it, sort of so I am kind of proud of it anyway.

The jacket weighed 78 and the vest 95, so almost two balls of Baby Merino from Drops...
Now what to make with the leftovers....
